Think like Radiohead
I am a fan.
I think the moment I became a fan was when I heard Thom Yorke say this:
“We don’t want to become the biggest band in the world; we want to become the most influential.”
There was something going on here that was bigger than just the music.
When you think that way, the path is different.
You don’t repeat the formula that gave you your biggest success.
(The music business loves sequels because innovation is a messy old business.)
You build your own studio.
You ask your fans to decide what will they pay for an album.
They just keep pushing.
A couple of years ago, Colin Greenwood did a talk in our cowshed.
He took us through how they collaboratively built songs.
I loved learning how they think.
As I said, I am a fan.
